Wichita Food Trucks - Davis-Moore MazdaWichita is a bustling hub for diners looking to get their grub on, in large part due to a thriving food truck scene. As of 2017, over 30 food trucks have popped up across the city, and that number will likely continue to grow. So if you’re in the mood for street-style cuisine but don’t quite know where to look, here’s a list of some of the top food trucks in the area.

The Flying Stove

It wouldn’t be fair to discuss Wichita food trucks without mentioning the city’s first installment: The Flying Stove. It opened in 2011 as a leading pioneer for food truck culture and has been satisfying diners ever since thanks to tasty menu offerings like burgers, sandwiches, and tacos.

Favorites here include the Chicken Doobie Taco (a flour tortilla filled with rosemary chicken, caramelized onions and peppers, garlic, pepper jack cheese, and arugula) and the truffle fries decorated with a parmesan cheese and thyme dressing. Care to visit? The Flying Stove frequents spots like Central Standard Brewing, Heritage Park, and the ICT Pop-Up Urban Park.

Kind Kravings

Also joining the lineup at ICT Pop-Up Urban Park is Kind Kravings, which differs from most food trucks because of its completely natural and plant-based menu. Its dishes wear organic and vegan-friendly labels and contain little to no GMOs, cholesterol, chemical preservatives, or trans fats.

Plus, this double-decker has indoor tables and chairs, giving it a more homey feel for diners. You’ll love the breakfast pancakes and roasted cauliflower tacos, and the fresh smoothies and lemonade offer a refreshing complement for your meal. Further indulge your palate with a sweet treat such as the chocolate chip cookie dough ball or cinnamon crunch sundae.

Bibimbap n’ Go

Focusing on Korean fusion cuisine, Bibimbap n’ Go is one of the newer food trucks to pop up in Wichita. You can find it traveling to places like Central Standard Brewing, Douglas Design District, and Generations Antiques and Artisans.

Everything offered on the menu is prepared with authentic Korean ingredients and flavors in mind. Take your pick from popular options such as bibimbap with your choice of beef or chicken, kimchi, veggies, a fried egg, and gochujang sauce, or sample favorites like kimbap (Korean sushi), spicy chicken wings, Korean veggie pancakes, and bulgogi with thin, marinated slices of meat over rice.

ICT Pop-Up Urban Park

Located along East Douglas Avenue is the popular downtown hub, the ICT Pop-Up Urban Park. This public outdoor space is the perfect backdrop for movie showings and live entertainment, though it makes its way on this list for its extensive food truck lineup.

The Pop-Up Park is open daily, but food truck availability does depend on individual business hours. The schedule for September 2018 includes eateries such as Sweet Willy’s BBQ, Funky Monkey Munchies, and Wheat Street Dogs. In addition, Sunflower Espresso is stocked with freshly brewed coffee and baked goods, while the creme-filled cupcakes at Brown Box Bakery and savory desserts at LoLo’s Crepes offer plenty for those with a sweet tooth.
