A mechanic at Davis-Moore Mazda evaluating brakes on a vehicle in Wichita, KS

4 Warning Signs that it's Time for New Brake Pads

Cars are one of the most essential parts of our daily lives. We rely on them heavily, and sometimes the constant use takes its toll on our vehicles. Everyday wear and tear can cause parts to break down, including your brakes. Here are four warning signs that it's time for new brake pads for your car. more 1. Brake Light is On The most obvious sign that points towards problems with your brakes is when your brake light is on. While it may simply be indicating your parking brake is engaged, it could also be a sign of something more serious. Be sure to fully release the parking brake to see if this causes the light to go out. If the brake light stays on, the car is signaling to you that there is a problem with the brakes and that they should be checked out by a professional. 2. Squealing, Squeaking, or Grinding Noises If you are hearing a metallic squeal while driving, turn down your heavy metal playlist. If you still hear the metallic squeal after that, this is your brake pad wear indicator. The brake pad indicators are made of steel, causing them to make a high-pitched noise when they come in contact with the rotor. Make sure to get new brake pads as soon as possible, so that rotor damage does not occur. The continual rubbing of the steel on the rotors causes expensive rotor damage. 3. Vibration, Wobbling, or Scraping When Braking If any strange noise or feeling occurs when braking, this could also point to a need for new brake pads. Shuddering of the steering wheel can be due to an uneven rotor. Brake pads hug the rotors when brakes are applied. This causes the rotors to slow down and eventually stop altogether. It is common for rotors to have slight grooves as a result of constant braking. However, if one rotor develops deeper cuts, steering wheel vibration will start to occur. 4. Leaking Fluid Leaking fluid is another telltale sign that you may need your brake pads checked. This fluid, called brake fluid, is what gives power to your brakes. The master cylinder is the catalyst that causes the brake pads to clamp down on the rotors. The brake fluid creates hydraulic pressure by being pushed through thin piping that presses down on the brake pads. If there is not enough fluid, there won't be enough pressure to secure the rotors between the pads firmly.  It is essential to check the level of your brake fluid on a regular basis to prevent this from happening. Many signs point to a need for a brake pad check-up. These four examples are important to remember, especially now that summer is in full swing.  Stay safe by making sure not to push off any brake pad maintenance. The service team at Davis-Moore Mazda knows how important brakes are to a vehicle. Call or stop by to schedule routine maintenance or service with them today. Image via Flickr by YOUCANIC

Few things are more relaxing than immersing yourself in a book's story and letting your imagination recreate all the scenes and characters. Here are the best places in Wichita, Kansas, to find great books. more Book-A-Holic Bookstore This special place is owned by local David Lovett and his wife Maria. It started back in 1993 after the couple closed a failed mail order venture. Having amassed over 5,000 books, they quickly adapted and started what is now the largest used book store in all of Kansas. Over the years, the business kept growing, and they now have three locations, in the Parklane, Plaza West, and Tyler Crossing shopping centers. Visitors can even bring their own used books, DVDs, or music albums and sell them to other bookstore buyers. Al's Old and New Book Store This charming bookstore was based in Delano for 40 years before moving to downtown Wichita five years ago. The over 2,000 square feet of space is host to more than 40,000 books, with a broad variety of themes and topics that range from local, American, and world history to science, art, engineering, and an excellent variety of fiction. They also stock up on old and out-of-print books, and they offer their customers a special search service if the title they want is not currently in the bookstore's stock. Blue Baboon Books While books should be a big part of any adult's life, getting children and young adults to read is even more important. This was the reasoning behind Blue Baboon Books, Wichita's only bookstore that only has juvenile literature. They also understand that in order to get kids to be passionate about books, you need to create the right environment. They regularly host all sorts of events, from story times and crafting events to birthday parties and baby showers, offering the kids plenty of opportunities to have fun and build a lifelong passion for books. Watermark Books and Café The idea of a bookstore where you can meet friends and have fun in a cozy atmosphere not only appeals to kids, but also to adults. The Reveal of the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Diesel

The American automotive market has always had a strange relationship with diesel and as a result, the vast majority of vehicles sold in the US are gasoline-only. Mazda, on the other hand, is a brand that carves its own path and doesn't shy away from innovation. At the recent New York International Auto Show, the Japanese manufacturer announced the imminent launch of the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Diesel, a premium crossover SUV that's sure to dazzle US car buyers. more Perfecting the Diesel Engine Mazda introducing a diesel engine vehicle to the US market is a plan that the manufacturer first announced back in 2010. From the very beginning, the plan was to sell a diesel car that was both powerful and efficient, while also complying with modern day emissions standards and therefore contributing to a cleaner and less polluted future for all of us. Although initially planned for the Mazda 6, in the end, the CX-5 SUV was chosen as the car that would be fitted with the diesel-powered engine. The result is a very fuel-efficient vehicle, especially given the fact that it will only be available in all-wheel-drive. Mazda estimates that the CX-5 Diesel will have a combined fuel consumption of 28 miles per gallon, an excellent number given the car's size, premium status, and all-wheel traction. Power and Performance Diesel engines typically produce less horsepower than their gasoline counterparts, mainly because they operate at lower revs. They do, however, produce a significantly higher amount of torque, which is very useful when the vehicle needs to go up steep hills, tackle rough terrains, or carry heavy loads. This was probably one of the reasons why the CX-5, an SUV, was preferred over the Mazda 6, which is a sedan. Most SUV drivers expect their car to successfully navigate rough paths and to have more cargo space than a sedan. The 2019 Mazda CX-5 Diesel's engine is able to produce up to 168 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque, very respectable numbers for such an efficient and luxurious vehicle. Although the gas-powered CX-5 engines are slightly more powerful, the vehicle's towing capacity is 3,500 pounds, 1,500 pounds higher than its gasoline counterpart. A Blend of Comfort and Style The diesel engine will only be available on the CX-5's top Signature trim, meaning all buyers will get the absolute best from what the classy SUV has to offer. Luxury interior components, such as ambient cabin lighting, premium leather upholstery, and wooden trim accents all blend perfectly with comfort-enhancing additions like the power-adjustable front seats with driver-seat memory functions. Smartphone connectivity is easy with the help of Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, or USB, while a crisp-sounding 10-speaker BOSE sound system is sure to delight all passengers. The 2019 Mazda CX-5 Diesel is sure to be an excellent mixture of comfort, luxury, technology, and efficiency while having the potential to signal a new era for cleaner and more efficient diesel engines in the US. It is currently available for pre-sale and will hit the streets this summer. Image via MazdaUSA.com
